ASSIGNMENT - Due end of class Thursday, November 14
- Following the steps below, you will...
- Build your own performance panel
- Assign MIDI keys and/or computer keys to control the panel (video)
- Level 2 will be using the Novation Launchpad
- Practice performing your improvisation
- Perform for the class
- This performance will be recorded and submitted
- You will use the teacher's workstation since it is connected to the speakers
- Watch the Performance Panel Basics and Arming and Recording videos
- Follow the instructions in the Student Handout Download as practice.
- You may watch the other videos about the Performance Panel at your leisure for more creativity
Step 2 - Build your performance panel
- Save project at LiveLoop_LastnameF
- You must have at least 4 sets (but more sets offers more creativity)
- Level 2s must use 8 sets and 8 tracks
- Select the Launchpad MK2/Pro under Preferences > Control Surfaces
- Select the Launchpad as the input and output.
- Level 2s must use 8 sets and 8 tracks
- You must have at least one each of the following tracks:
- Drums
- Bass
- Harmony
- An Original Virtual Instrument
- At least one extra track of your choice (SFX, different Harmony, Original, etc...)
- Each of the 8 pads on the the IMPACT LX25+ must be assigned
- STOP - Once you have built your performance panel, have Mr. Shearer check your project
Step 3 - Assign MIDI controls and Practice
- Assign computer keys, keyboard keys, MIDI triggers etc... to your performance panel.
- Remember your MIDI assignments (you may need to reassign them before your performance)
- Practice, make some recordings, make each one different, it is an improvised live performance
- Your performance needs to be at least one minute and use all sounds in your performance panel
- Performance should not be any longer than 3:30
- Record a sample performance
- Submit project with an example performance recording by end of class Wednesday, November 13
- Copy files to... flash drive in folder named LiveLoop_LastnameF
Step 4 - PERFORMANCE - Thursday, November 14
- Take turns performing for the class
- Record this performance and Mixdown to MP3 on your flash drive named LiveLoop_MP3_LastnameF
Step 5 - Perform using a classmates performance panel
RUBRIC - 50 Points
- Project requirement
- Performance Panel uses at least 4 sets (8 for Level 2)
- All sounds in the panel are used
- The minimum track requirements are met
- All pads on IMPACT LX25+ are assigned
- Performance is at least one minute and less that 3:30
- Production Quality - Careful attention to volume levels, panning, use of FX
- Artistry - project is well crafted, entertaining, interesting and creative, an improvisation and not a completely structured composition
- Performance is completed for the class
- Follows project submission guidelines
- Project Penalties
- -20 points for not completing class performance
- -3 points for not submitting assignment properly
- -3 points per day for late submissions
- Project Extra Credit
- Especially creative and refined
- Extra sets and tracks
- Using a second controller to improvise a melody
- Performing with advanced Sound Tab Parameters (Instant trigger, toggle, etc...)
